Church of St. Catherine
The Church of St. Catherine is the most beautiful Zagreb Baroque church and on of the Zagreb sites located in the Upper Town. Built in the early 17th century at the location of the former Dominican church, this Jesuit church is famous for its lavish stucco and one marble and five wooden Baroque altars.
Originally, beside the church was a monastery which today grew to be one of the most famous Zagreb gallery, Klovićevi dvori (Klovićevi palace). The church burned almost to the ground in two conflagration in 1645th and 1674th, but with great help of Croatian nobles it was restored. By Croatian customs in that time, in return, nobles could place their family crest or have an honor of being buried in the church.
The church interior is decorated with gifts of nobility. Family Erdoedy, which was buried in the St. Catherine Church, pointed out the most. Main art works were made in the 18th Century: stucco decorations, fresco paintings in the medallions on the ceiling and two marble altars. It is believed that the small plastic angel in the firmament is the work of a member of the Milan family Quadrio known by its stucco decorations. The front (the one we see nowadays) was made towards the idea of Hermann Bolle and four statues that show evangelists Mark, Matthew, Luke and John are placed in front.

Classical music concerts held at this Church make it an indispensable part of the Zagreb tourism offer.
